UK setting the agenda for online gambling
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is calling for an international summit to discuss working in cooperation with other countries to stop underage gambling and to combat online money laundering, in the wake of the UK Gambling Act which when passed last year made the UK the only industrialised country to legislate a regulatory framework for the online gambling industry.
Early reports indicate that the US is unlikely to send representatives to the summit. I hope this will not turn out to be the case; these markets are likely to continue to enjoy significant growth rates for many years to come and the constructive engagement of the US authorities in the dialog as to how best to regulate and monitor their rise would be extremely welcome.
