A new way of investing in property
Opromark was launched last year as reported in the Guardian with backing and management from some of the people involved in Betfair, including Andrew Black.
The idea is to allow investors to trade in shares of individual properties much as they can trade in shares of companies on a traditional stock exchange. There doesn’t seem to be alot of newsflow on the company, and they’ve made the odd decision not to allow view access to their listings unless you sign up (which I haven’t - partly in silent protest of their poor website.) So hard to know how successful they have been, but the principle is excellent and if run efficiently should replace direct buy-to-let property investment for most individual savers. Especially if Gordon or his successor allows this kind of asset to be put in SIPP’s.
If anyone has any direct experience of Opromark I’d be interested to hear. Also I’ve added a new sub-category to Markets called New and Different where I will seek to post and discuss new and sometime unusual markets, born of and for the Digital Generation.
